Susie Murphy

It will be my first time exhibiting south of the border and I am really looking forward to exhibiting at this fantastic event. With just over a month to go, preparations are now well underway.

Monthly Musings

Keep on reading for the monthly collection of 'Monday musings...'

Ardnamurchan

'Thalassophile' - A lover of the sea. Are you a fellow thalassophile?

Glencoe

'Rayleigh scattering' is an optical phenomenon which makes the sky appear blue. Named after British physicist, Lord Rayleigh, it is a light scattering process where sunlight is scattered by molecules in the atmosphere. Short wavelengths (the blue end of the visible spectrum) are mostly effected by this light scattering process.

'Susurrus' - A whispering, murmuring, or rustling sound often used to describe the gentle crashing of waves against the shore. Turn on the volume, kick back, relax, and enjoy the susurrus of waves at Sanna by clicking here.

Eigg, Susie Murphy

'Eigg', now available as a limited edition print, means notch in Gaelic. It used to be called Eilean nam Ban Mora (island of the big women!) by the islanders when they were at sea, and its distinctive shape has been an important navigational landmark dating as far back as the Vikings.

This beautiful island is the most populated member of the Small Isles and its vibrant community is leading the way in sustainable living. In 2008 the Isle of Eigg implemented a state of the art renewable grid, making power available 24hrs a day by integrating solar, wind and hydro power. You can learn more about this inspirational, Hebridean island here.

Rhu, Arisaig

'Rudenéja' - A Lithuanian word to describe the way nature and/or the weather begins to feel like Autumn. I have definitely experienced rudenéja these past couple of weeks, have you?

Competition Time

My heart is always warmed by the love and support that you continue to show me. Whether this is in person or on social media, every purchase, like, comment and share is so very much appreciated. I cannot thank you enough for your ongoing kindness, and as a token of my appreciation I aim to include giveaway opportunities as often as possible in future monthly newsletters. This month you have the opportunity win an Artist's Proof of 'A Sky Full of Wishes'.

'A Sky Full of Wishes', Rannoch Moor, Susie Murphy

Artist's Proofs are a necessary part of the print production process, where proofs are produced until the artist is happy with the print. Some buyers choose to collect this type of print as Artist's Proofs have now become very collectable in their own right. The proportion of Artist's Proofs to the total of a limited edition print run is usually around 10%. Having said that however, 'A Sky Full of Wishes' is open edition and was a very rare colour proofing dream: it only required one artist's proof and this is it! Its image size is approximately 27.5cm square and has the initials 'AP' and my signature hand signed on the back.

If you would like to be in with a chance of winning this Artist's Proof of 'A Sky Full of Wishes', just follow these two simple steps:

1. Firstly, subscribe to my mailing list.

(You can read my privacy policy here.)

2. Secondly, like and comment on my Facebook post in connection to this competition. Just a simple emoticon is enough. (Alternatively, I'd love to learn where your favourite place to stargaze is, or maybe you'd like to let me know what you think of my new newsletter.)

Don't forget to like my Facebook page and/or follow me on Instagram and Twitter if you are joining me for the first time! :)

This competition will close at 6pm on 21/10/17. The lucky winner will be selected at random and announced on my Facebook Page within 48hrs of the competition closing time. Please share this giveaway with your friends and family. I'd like to take this opportunity to wish you all the very BEST OF LUCK!
